Practice Area

As a mediator/facilitator/workplace investigator, I specialize in employment, workplace, negotiation and labour matters. As a nurse, I have expertise in health care labour, nursing issues, and senior leadership/corporate governance.

Practice Description

As a mediator/facilitator, I specialize in employment, workplace and labour matters conducting mediations for grievances or disputes, labour negotiations, interest arbitration, employment matters, health and safety, pay equity, and pensions and benefits including disability benefits.  I provide mediation using both, or either, an evaluative or facilitative style depending on the situation and the desire of the parties.   I also provide neutral facilitation for workplace conflict management, dispute resolution, negotiation and relationship building.

I am an experienced third party, neutral workplace investigator focused on providing impartial, objective, fact-based, legally defensible, humane, time-sensitive, trauma-informed, and discreet investigations.  Prior experience as an internal investigator in a unionized setting.

I have extensive knowledge and experience in the public, non-profit and health care sectors.

I am available for in-person or virtual mediation and conflict resolution.  I will conduct mediation/conflict resolution/workplace investigations at locations agreed by the parties.

Background

I commenced Mathers Workplace Conflict Resolution in July 2022.  I began work as a mediator in August.  In November 2022, I was contracted as the Midwifery Facilitator by the Ministry of Health to facilitate the Ministry and the Association of Midwives to negotiate a new service agreement.

I began my career as a Registered Nurse, becoming a health care labour leader and then Chief Executive Officer.  I have worked in many capacities at the Ontario Nurses’ Association including Labour Relations Officer, Manager, Negotiations, Senior Director, Labour Relations and Chief Executive Officer.  I obtained a diploma in Registered Nursing from Seneca College; a Bachelor of Arts in Labour Studies from McMaster University; a mediation certificate from University of Guelph; a Master of Arts from Royal Roads University in Organizational Conflict and Management; and a certificate in Leadership Excellence from Queen’s University.  I have recently completed a Workplace Investigations Training and Certificate Program to formalize and update my expertise.

During my long career in labour relations, I have acted in the capacity of both - the union and as an employer. I maintain my qualifications as a Registered Nurse, mediator, and workplace investigator.

I am a member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and the ADR Institute of Ontario and Canada.
